Félag enskukennara á Íslandi

The Association of English teachers in Iceland is called ‘Félag enskukennara á Íslandi’ or FEKÍ. FEKÍ is a member of the International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language - IATEFL.

The main objectives of the association are:

  • To be a platform for presentations, education and discussions among English teachers.
  • To promote and improve the teaching of English in Iceland.
  • To seek connection with other language teaching associations both in Iceland and abroad.

All teachers of English can become members.

At the general meeting, which is to be held every spring, the board is elected in a secret ballot. Of the five members and one alternate elected, not more than two should be from the same school level. The chairperson is to be elected separately; other duties will be divided among the other board members. The Annual General meeting will elect two accountants.

The Annual General meeting shall be convened in writing at least two weeks in advance. The Annual General meeting is considered legal if members were summoned in the rightful manner.

FEKÍ members who have paid the membership fee are eligible to vote and be elected to the board.

Membership fees are to be decided at the Annual General Meeting.

Laws can only be amended at the Annual General Meeting and require the approval of 2/3 of members in attendance.

The Board of Directors of FEKÍ and STÍL have the right to attend FEKÍ board meetings.

Approved as amended at the FEKÍ Annual General Meeting held May 20, 1985.
