Félag enskukennara á Íslandi

FEKÍ stands for Félag Enskukennara á Íslandi (e. ATEI: The Association of Teachers of English in Iceland) and is an association for all English teachers. It was founded in 1969 and today there are approximately 150 members registered. The main objectives of FEKÍ are stated in their laws:

  • To provide English teachers with the opportunity to receive information, training and further education and to facilitate discussion between English teachers about various topics.
  • To promote English teaching in Iceland
  • To connect and cooperate with other language teachers‘ associations within Iceland and abroad.

To achieve these objectives, the association has regular meetings, lectures and courses where members have the opportunity to learn about and discuss professional topics as well as make connections with other members.

FEKÍ is a member of IATEFL, the International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language.

Here is a news report about the foundation of FEKÍ, published in Dagur, on Wednesday 10 December in 1969.
